My Ministry Journey

My call to the ministry came on a CRU summer project in Panama City Beach. I went back to school the next fall with a zeal for the gospel ministry. My future wife, Andrea, and I were introduced and our love grew deeper by the month, but I thought I was called to be a missionary in Albania. I was accepted and made plans until my mother came down with a brain tumor. Instead of the mission field, I went home to care for her and served in the college ministry at First Presbyterian. My reformed convictions had been developing along the way, and I knew I needed to rethink my denominational affiliation. My mother’s tumor was healed with the Gamma Knife treatment, and I was able to pursue the next step in my life, which was to marry Andrea. Talking to her pastor about marriage turned into a job interview. We were married, and I became the Youth Pastor at New Covenant (PCA) in Aiken, SC. Three years later, they sent me to Covenant Seminary in St. Louis, MO. While in seminary, I served in a Korean Church as the EM pastor for two years and was assistant to Dr. Dan Doriani. Andrea was a teacher by degree and taught at Twin Oaks School. Those years confirmed our call to church planting.

Church Planting

The Lord led us to plant Christ Our Comfort (PCA) in Raleigh, NC in Terry Traylor’s network. We were part of planting five churches and three RUF ministries. My family also grew with three wonderful children—Andrew, Ally and Emma. For seven years we saw amazing things accomplished for the kingdom, but it took its toll on me. Needing a change, I went to Charleston, SC as the Assistant Pastor of Community Development for Redeemer (PCA). After a year and a half, we realized it wasn’t a fit, so I began waiting on the Lord to open the next door. I did whatever I could to provide for my family and was immersed back into the marketplace selling cars, warehouse management and ultimately as CDO of Wegener Media, a MAC servicing and sales company in Columbia, SC. During this season, I kept my hand in preaching and learned much about leadership. It also rekindled my zeal for evangelism. While at Wegener Media, I was introduced to a couple fellas that had a ministry in the Lexington Old Mill. One thing led to another and we remission the ministry into a PCA church plant. I planted Watershed Fellowship, which particularized in 2014. This is where I am presently the lead pastor.

Coordinator of Church Planting

In 2013, I was approached by Palmetto Presbytery to become the Coordinator of Church Planting overseeing 29 counties in SC. Our goal and accomplishments have been 2 church plants a year. Our presbytery has planted in Blythewood, Columbia, Mt. Pleasant, Beaufort, Orangeburg, North Charleston, Florence, Leesville, Lexington. We are looking for new areas all the time—North Augusta, West Columbia, South East Columbia. In 2015, our presbytery had grown to the point that we needed to plant another presbytery. We ended up planting three (Palmetto, Pee Dee and Lowcountry). I continued overseeing church planting for all three during our first transition year. My goal was to establish three strong MNA committees to continue the church planting efforts. I presently oversee Palmetto and Pee Dee presbyteries. My true joy is coaching young planters in their journey toward establishing a healthy, discipling and multiplying church. Being in the thick of it myself, keeps me fresh and hungry to learn and grow in our Lord as he builds his kingdom through the church.
